FISU inspection1October 17 - Marc Vandenplas, the Summer Universiade director of the International University Sport Federation (FISU), has praised preparations for the Gwangju edition of the competition in 2015 after leading an inspection visit for the event.

The inspection from the FISU delegates looked at areas including event operation and management, stadium construction, the Athletes' Village, transportation, IT, accommodation, security, volunteers and cultural events.

In total, the FISU delegates visited 19 venues and Vandenplas (pictured top, centre) admitted the team were very impressed with the South Korean city.

"I appreciate the efforts of the Gwangju Organising Committee for their speedy preparation during the short period," he said.

"I hope that the FISU and the Organising Committee will closely work for further cooperation."

Gwangju 2015 welcomed the inspection visit as hugely constructive.

"FISU inspection delegates always emphasise the partnership and friendship between the Organising Committee and the FISU, which means that we have to share knowledge and exchange opinions on the Universiade," said a statement.

"We are confident that Gwangju will make the best Universiade ever through close cooperation with the FISU."

Following the inspection, the FISU International Technical Committee will arrive in Gwangju on November 26 and stay until December 9 to aid Gwangju 2015.

The group will comprise 35 members including the representatives of the FISU secretariat and chairpersons of 21 technical committees.
